Testing
Testing at Spring Gate School
Spring Gate School recognizes the need to test our students to determine academic progress. In addition, the state of Florida and our accrediting agency require a standardized test to be administered annually. Therefore, each spring, we administer The Iowa Test of Basic Skills. It is an assessment which measures the skills and achievement levels of students in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. This assessment allows us to test students on the level which they are working. We selected this test for two main reasons:
• It provides us with specific academic information so we may provide remediation in deficient areas, and
• The staff is able to compare national and standardized test scores to our students’ scores.
Reports are sent to parents with a brief explanation of the testing results. Test results help us as we visit changes in our curriculum for the following school year.
Student Mastery
Spring Gate School utilizes The Brigance Comprehensive Inventory of Basic Skills to assist us in planning curriculum changes and to determine areas of student mastery. The individual test results become a valuable tool as we prepare the Personalized Learning Plan for every student each year. This assessment is given at the time of entry into Spring Gate School as a baseline for information mastered or is administered each spring to report student progress to staff and parents.
